Anatomy of a card

Every chart, table and tile in LearnBoard sits in a card, and every card is built the same way. Once you know one, you know them all. This page is for anyone reading a LearnBoard screen.

At a glance

  • The title says what the card is about. The line under it says what is being counted.
  • Up to four round buttons sit in the top-right corner: Download CSV, Pin to dashboard, Ask AI and Info.
  • The i for Info is always the right-most button.
  • Every chart also carries its figures as a table that screen readers can read.

The parts of a card.
  • Header icon: the coloured badge to the left of the title on chart and table cards. It helps you recognise a card at a glance.
  • Title: what the card is about, for example “Top 10 courses by enrolment”.
  • Unit line: the smaller line under the title. It says what the card counts and over what, for example “Enrolments and completed enrolments per course”. A chart always states its unit here, so you know whether you are reading learners, enrolments, certificates or attempts.

Small stat tiles in the strip across the top of a screen are cards too. They carry their own label and the same buttons, drawn smaller.

From left to right, a card can show:

Download CSV

Downloads the card’s figures as a CSV file. Only on cards that have an export, and only for roles allowed to export. See Download CSV.

Pin to dashboard

Puts the card on one of your own dashboards, where it stays live. Only on cards that can be pinned. See Pin to dashboard.

Ask AI

The sparkle. Opens the AI assistant already looking at this card. See Ask AI on a card.

Info

The i. Explains what the card shows and how to read it. See The Info button.

Not every card shows every button. A card with nothing to download has no Download button; a card that cannot be pinned has no Pin button. Some cards add a control of their own in the same row, such as a Course picker or a download button for a table.

Button

A round button that saves the card’s figures as a CSV file.

  • What you can do: click it. The icon spins while the file is prepared, then your browser saves it. If it fails, a short message appears beside the button.
Button

A round button with a pin, which opens the Pin to dashboard window.

  • What you can do: choose one of your dashboards, or create a new one, then press Pin here.
Button

A round button with a sparkle, which opens the AI assistant with this card’s title and figures already in front of it.

  • What you can do: pick a starter question such as Summarise this, or type your own.
Button

The round i button, always on the right.

  • What you can do: hover or focus it for a quick look, or click it to keep the explanation open until you click elsewhere or press Escape.

Each chart publishes the figures it draws as a table. The table is not shown on screen, but screen readers can reach it, so nobody depends on hovering over a chart to read its values. Very long series are cut to the first 200 rows, and the table says so. The same figures are what the card hands to Ask AI. See Keyboard and accessibility.

If one card fails, it shows This card could not be displayed. and The rest of the page is unaffected. Reload to try again. The other cards on the screen keep working. If the figures themselves could not be loaded, the card says Something went wrong loading this data with a way to try again.
